Workplace rehabilitation policy and procedures

All Queensland employers are obliged to assist or provide rehabilitation for workers with work-related injuries. Under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003, if you meet specific criteria you must also have a:

  • Workplace rehabilitation policy and procedures accredited by Q-COMP
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator (RRTWC) registered by Q-COMP - you can train someone in your company for this role or outsource your RRTWC.

You will require a RRTWC if you:

  • employ workers in a high risk industry in Queensland and your wages for the preceding financial year are $2.037 million or above OR
  • your wages are more than $6.692 million and you are not in a high risk industry.

Steps to becoming accredited with Q-COMP

The process for workplace rehabilitation accreditation has recently been streamlined as of 1 July 2011.

In order to achieve workplace accreditation for your company's rehabilitation policy and procedures, you simply need to complete Form 100.1R and submit it to Q-COMP.

This form is a simple declaration that the rehabilitation policy and procedures implemented within the organisation are in line with the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. Due to this change, no additional documentation is required for review in order to achieve workplace accreditation.

It is imperative that the workplace rehabilitation policy and procedures remain readily available to all staff within the organisation. Please ensure that all workplace rehabilitation documentation is kept up to date in case the organisation is selected for a random audit.

If you currently hold workplace rehabilitation accreditation which is due to expire shortly, all you need to do is complete and submit form 100.1R.
