Educating your workers on the return to work process

You are probably familiar with the concept of Toolbox Talks for workplace health and safety, but have you ever thought about extending the concept to discuss return to work?

An easy way to begin would be to refresh your workers' memory about how your workplace rehabilitation system works. A quick way to develop a Toolbox Talks would be to use the new simplified Q-COMP Policy and Procedure template as a guide.

Our template covers:

  • Why it is a good idea to help injured workers return to work as soon as possible
  • The role and rights of the injured worker
  • How to lodge an application for compensation
  • The role of the RRTWC
  • The role of management
  • Some basic definitions

You can find the Q-COMP Policy and Procedure template on our website.

For more information and some resources to help you develop Toolbox Talks visit the Comprehend library (You'll need your username and password) or visit the Return to Work Zone.

Return to work fact sheets

Q-COMP also has a range of fact sheets to help you educate workers about the return to work process and their rights and responsibilities when they lodge a claim for workers' compensation.

The following fact sheets can be downloaded from our website:

  • The role of the Rehabilitation and Return to work Coordinator
  • What happens when a worker is injured at work?
  • The return to work process explained in an easy-to-read flowchart
