Queensland RRTWC’s conjure up delicious ideas

Rehabilitation and return to work coordinators (RRTWCs) from across the state participated in Q-COMP's Innovation Jam - an online forum that ran for two weeks in June. The Jam was a great success and participants generated 24 new ideas that others could vote and comment on.

The ideas and related comments clearly outline what Q-COMP can do to support the rehabilitation and return to work community (RRTW) including:

  • improving tools and resources to meet employer/industry specific needs
  • balancing direct engagement vs. facilitated knowledge sharing by RRTWCs and
  • ongoing leadership.

RRTWCs took the opportunity to voice ideas and opinions based on their current experience as part of the return to work community.

The most popular ideas were:

Online resources - Elisa Capaldi

Elisa would like to see more online resources for workers similar to Habit at Work.

Training for supervisors/managers- Lisa Bawden

Lisa has promoted the idea of a training pack RRTWC's could use to promote the benefits of rehabilitation to supervisors/management in different workplaces.

Better use of information provided on the medical certificate - Sarah Young

Sarah's idea was to improve the information detailed on the workers' compensation medical certificate to assist in identifying safe suitable duties for return to work programs.

There were also lots of other great ideas generated including:

  • knowledge sharing - improved mechanisms to increase knowledge sharing amongst members of the RRTW community
  • employer specific education - improvements in information and resources provided to employers on a specific and/or industry basis
  • doctor education - more training and resources for medical professionals about return to work.

We will be using these ideas to prioritise the development of new tools and resources that we provide to RRTWCs, employers and workers.

Ideas that generated relevant and useful information for agencies other than Q-COMP such as WorkCover Qld, Department of Justice and Attorney General and Industrial Relations and Workplace Health & Safety Queensland will be passed on to them.

Thanks again to all who have contributed and please feel free to share any other thoughts by posting a live comment using the comment tool at the bottom of this article.

The winners of the five $100 gift vouchers are:
