Structural review of Queensland's workers' compensation scheme
Following on from the recent release of the Report of the
Structural Review of Institutional and Working Arrangements in
Queensland's Workers' Compensation Scheme,Q-COMP in conjunction
with WorkCover Queensland will be hosting bi-annual forums to help
us better understand the impact of the recent workers' compensation
reforms and ensure we stay abreast of any developing trends and hot
topics.
By hosting these forums, which will see us facilitating
discussions between unions, lawyers, government departments,
insurers and our other key stakeholder groups, we aim to encourage
transparent and honest conversation that will strengthen our
industry relationships.
The review which was released in October was conducted by an
independent reviewer and makes 51 recommendations regarding the
Queensland workers' compensation scheme, in response to five
specific terms of reference:
- Appropriate strategies and institutional arrangements to ensure
the roles and functions of Q-COMP, WorkCover and the Department of
Justice and Attorney-General in Queensland workers' compensation
are clear and well understood by stakeholders and the broader
community;
- Arrangements that can be put in place to enhance transparency
and ensure that information is readily available to stakeholders
and the broader community on the workers' compensation scheme
performance;
- Strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the
workers' compensation claims management and common law settlements
processes;
- The appropriateness of the current level of legal costs and
management of the legal profession in workers' compensation
matters; and
- What actions can be taken by scheme stakeholders to improve to
rehabilitation and return to work.
