They're the unsung heroes in a zero-harm environment - the
people and organisations who step in when an injury occurs at work,
providing the support and services needed during what can be an
incredibly difficult time.
They're the rehabilitation and return to work coordinators, case
managers, employers and health providers - and they're being
recognised for their tireless efforts to get injured workers back
to work in this year's Return to work Awards, along with injured
workers who overcome the odds to get back to the workforce.
And the mining industry has a strong history of taking home
Return to work Awards, with previous winners and finalists
including Rio TInto (Alcan Wiepa Operations), BMA Saraji Mines,
DPSA Holdings and Xstrata (repeatedly!).
With these kinds of successes from the mining industry in
previous years, Q-COMP, who runs the Return to work Awards, hopes
for further successes in 2011.
To help recognise the efforts of those committed to promoting a
positive return to work culture in Queensland mining, the Return to
work Awards roadshow visited key mining centres throughout the
Bowen Basin in May this year.
Holding Awards roadshow breakfasts in Gladstone, Rockhampton,
Emerald, Moranbah, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns, the team from
Q-COMP were inspired by the commitment and innovation of locals in
rehabilitation and return to work.
Winners of the Return to work Awards 2011 receive up to $2,000
in prize money, while every nominee receives a certificate
celebrating their hard work.
The nomination period for the Return to work Awards close Friday
8th July, and Q-COMP CEO Elizabeth Woods urges those in
the industry who are committed to positive return to work outcomes
to nominate themselves or someone else at
qcompconference.com.au
"For those injured at work, the road back to the workforce can
be a rough one; the Awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the
commitment of injured workers and the tireless efforts of the
people who help them get back on track" Ms Woods said.
