Before your medical assessment tribunal

Your insurer should let you know you are being referred to a medical assessment tribunal and will send us the referral paperwork. After we receive the paperwork, a Q-COMP officer will contact you with your appointment date—the appointment is usually within six weeks from when we received the referral.

We will send a copy of the referral paperwork to you and your medical assessment tribunal doctors. We can also send a copy to your representative (if you have one) but we will need an authorisation form from you first.

You might have another report or document you wish to submit at your medical assessment tribunal—send this to us and your insurer no later than 10 business days before the day of your appointment.

We will provide your medical assessment tribunal doctors with a copy of your documents.

Your insurer can respond to your documents but they must respond in writing and provide us with a copy at least three business days before your appointment—you and your medical assessment tribunals doctors will also get a copy.

At your appointment you can bring along relevant radiological imaging, such as x-rays or cat scans.

Most medical assessments tribunals are held at Q-COMP but sometimes you might need to see the doctors at their practices before your appointment. This is usually for eye and ear, nose and throat injuries.

The medical assessment tribunal usually takes between 45 to 60 minutes and your doctors will discuss the medical aspects of your claim and for physical injuries, they may also do a clinical examination. You may provide your doctors with more information about your injury verbally.

If you decide to have a representative you should be aware that you will need to cover the costs.
