Reasons for Decision presentation for MAT doctors:

To support tribunal members in the task of writing reasons in such a way that they can be easily understood by persons with little or no practical knowledge of medical terminology, Q-COMP hosted a lunch time presentation by Belinda Cassidy, Principal Claims Assessor of the Motor Accidents Authority NSW on Tuesday 17 May 2011.

Belinda holds a double accreditation in personal injury law and government and administrative law and has extensive experience in writing reasons for decision in relation to personal injury claims. Belinda provided the attendees with some advice on how to prepare reasons for decision based on her own experiences.

Twenty seven tribunal members were able to attend the presentation and a survey of attendees revealed that the majority felt that the presentation improved or increased their understanding of writing reasons for decision.

Many tribunal members were unfortunately unable to attend due to their busy schedules or distance from Q-COMP. To ensure that those members will have an opportunity to benefit from the presentation we arranged for the presentation to be videotaped.

Once the video has completed the editing phase it will be available for viewing via Comprehend, Q-COMP's on line training program. Stay tuned for an update on this progress.

We welcome feedback from tribunal members on ways that we can assist them to carry out their

duties. If you have any suggestions of how we may help you please don't hesitate to speak with a member of the tribunal secretariat.
