Your safety matters

We care about the safety and security of tribunal members and visitors and have in place a number of safety measures including:

  • A contract with State Government Security Services to provide 24 hour monitored alarm system.
  • Access to the car park, office areas and tribunal rooms is restricted by swipe card or remote access controlled by our reception. Tribunal members are issued with swipe cards for use while at each session. To ensure these cards do not become lost or stolen, members are requested to return their swipe cards to any member of the Tribunal Secretariat or reception staff when leaving. Cards not returned can be deactivated but the number of cards available is limited and replacement may take time.
  • Duress alarms in the tribunal hearing rooms can be activated in case of an emergency. The alarms are monitored by our Security Action Team and also by State Government Security.
  • Referrals to the tribunal are reviewed by tribunal coordinators for any indication of aggressive or threatening behaviour by a worker and if necessary an action plan is developed in consultation with the tribunal chairperson. In extreme cases police may be brought in to provide security at hearings.
  • Visitors to the tribunal are not permitted to take bags into the tribunal rooms. Public areas and passageways to tribunal rooms are monitored by CCTV with a continuous recording system.
  • We have floor and fire wardens who attend regular training sessions. Evacuation drills are conducted at least once every 12 months in accordance with the Building Fire Safety Regulations 2008.
  • We hold sessions on emergency procedures. Let us know if you haven't had an opportunity to attend one of these sessions or would like a refresher.

If you have any concerns about your safety, please talk to the Tribunal Secretariat.
