Recent appointments for the Medical Assessment Tribunal

Tribunal appointments normally only occur as part of a three-yearly cycle.  The next round of appointments to the various specialty tribunals is due to be effective from 1 July 2013, however Q-COMP occasionally has reason to request the appointment of doctors to Tribunals outside of this usual cycle and some out-of-cycle appointments have recently occurred.

We are pleased to advise of the reappointment of Dr Terry Coyne as a Deputy Chair of the Neurology/ Neurosurgical Assessment Tribunal; the appointment of Doctors Cathryn Edrich and Kevin English as members of the Ophthalmology Assessment Tribunal, and the appointment of Dr Philip Windle to the position of Deputy Chair of the Ophthalmology Assessment Tribunal.  All of these appointments were gazetted on 26 August 2011.

The relevant Gazette notice reads as follows:

Her Excellency the Governor, acting by and with the advice of the Executive Council and pursuant to the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003, has approved the appointment of the following persons to the panel of doctors for designation to Medical Assessment Tribunals.

Name Tribunal Position
Dr Terence Coyne Neurology/Neurosurgical Assessment Tribunal

Deputy Chairperson

Dr Cathryn Edrich Ophthalmology Assessment Tribunal Member
Dr Kevin English         Ophthalmology Assessment Tribunal Member
Dr Phillip Windle Ophthalmology Assessment Tribunal     Deputy Chairperson

As a part of their appointment to a panel, doctors are concurrently appointed as members of the panel of doctors for composite medical assessment tribunals.
