Q-COMP is very conscious of the need to be vigilant in relation to the security of employees and visitors attending Q-COMP, including members of the Medical Assessment Tribunals.
Q-COMP has developed and implemented procedures to minimise risk and promptly address any security issues should they arise. Duress alarms have been installed in all tribunal meeting rooms and examination rooms. These alarms are monitored by Queensland Government Security.
As a preventative measure all referrals to the MAT are reviewed by Tribunal Coordinators who look for any reference to aggressive or antisocial behaviour by workers who are to attend tribunals. If such behaviour is identified, discussions are held with the relevant Chairpersons and appropriate security is arranged. In some cases if deemed necessary Queensland Police Service are contacted and Police Officers are assigned to provide security.
Tribunal members can assist by promptly notifying secretariat staff of any concerns and by familiarising themselves with the duress alarms and emergency exits. Tribunal members should at all times comply with the direction of secretariat staff in the event of an emergency.
Please contact Steve Murray if you would like any more information regarding Security at the MATS.
