Richard Moore was sentenced to nine months jail (six months suspended) and ordered to make restitution in the amount of approximately $68,000 after being convicted of defrauding Gold Coast City Council.
Mr Moore was convicted of one charge of defrauding a self insurer and five counts of providing false or misleading information to a self insurer.
A Southport Magistrate found that Moore had lied about breaking his ankle on the job and ruled that the injury actually occurred while he was having drinks at the Parkwood Tavern.
CCTV footage tendered in court showed Mr Moore collapsing in the pub before he was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment of a bad fracture to his ankle.
