WorkCover Industry Code changes

Background

From 01 July 2010 Q-COMP will be changing our use of WorkCover Industry Codes (WIC) from ANZSIC 1993 to ANZSIC 2006. WIC codes are maintained by WorkCover and are used to set premium rates.

Under each self-insurance licence, WIC codes are assigned to each employer under licence. Self-insured employers use WIC codes to allocate claims against employers under their self-insurer licence.

This information is reported to us through monthly data submission as field 4.2.22 - WorkCover Industry Code (WIC Code) and 4.2.23 - Workplace Industry Description (WIC Description).

What changes will occur?

The introduction of ANZSIC 2006 based WIC codes will impact self-insured employers in the following areas:

  • Claims with a date of injury from 01 July 2010 will be required to be coded with an ANZSIC 2006 based WIC.
  • Claims with a date of injury prior to 01 July 2010 will be required to be coded with the ANZSIC 1993 based WIC.
  • ANZSIC 2006 based WIC codes will apply to each employer under their self-insurance licence and will be effective for 2010/11 wage declaration year.

Claim coding implications and our data submission reporting

Claims received with the date of injury from 01 July 2010 will require the coding of an ANZSIC 2006 based WIC code. Claims with a date of injury prior to 01 July 2010 will need to be coded with an ANZSIC 1993 based WIC code. This information is reported by self-insurers to us through monthly data submissions as described in the background.

Where possible, we have allocated to the existing ANZSIC 1993 WIC, the 'best fit' based on the WIC description of the new ANZSIC 2006 WIC. However, in some cases ANZSIC 2006 WIC's provide a 'one to many' or 'many to one' relationship.

Your Insurer Advisor will contact you about any changes that will affect you.

Next Steps

WorkCover QLD have not yet finalised the WIC code listing and there may be some changes to the WIC code/s provided above. You will be advised as soon as possible should there be any change to the information.

It is encouraged that self-insured employers discuss with their system providers whether there are any implications from separating the coding by date of injury.

Please note that regardless if any further changes to the ANZSIC 2006 WIC's are made, there is still a requirement by self-insured employers to allocate the different codes to 30 June 2010 and from 01 July 2010.
