Feedback from recent self-insured employer audit

We recently conducted an audit of all self-insured employers and found that there is some confusion about when a claim is lodged.

Q-COMP considers a claim is lodged at the time a worker lodges it with the employer at the workplace. Irrespective of how long it takes for the claim to be received by an insurer's claims unit, the timeframe under section 134 (2) of the Act commences from the time that a worker lodges it at their place of employment and a decision on liability is expected within 20 business days of that lodgement.

Please note the timeframe does not commence when the claim is received by an insurer's claims unit.

How to request a claim file

Our policy guideline - Release of Information between workers' compensation Insurers sets out general principles for self-insured employers.

It also provides a standard request form to be used at all times to moderate the request of claim files between insurers.

Click here to access a copy of the request form or a full copy of the guidelines.
