Corey is a 31 year old civil labourer who sustained an injury to his left arm while using a grinder in an overhead position. At the end of his workers' compensation claim Corey had no job to return to and was unable to return to work in a heavy manual labouring position due to his injury.
Corey was referred to Return to work assist on 21 November 2011 (6 months post injury) and a face-to-face meeting was organised with Corey within 2 days of receiving his referral.
At the initial interview it was established that Corey had previously completed his coal board medical and mining induction but this was not enough to provide him with the opportunity to find suitable employment. Previous attempts to find employment in the mining industry had not proven successful.
Corey's Return to work assist Advisor discussed further training opportunities with him and a career plan was put in place to provide Corey with the required skills to get back to work sooner.
One day after the interview, Return to work assist organised a registered training organisation to provide Corey with the necessary competencies in plant operation at no expense to Corey.
He completed his competencies and in January 2012 secured a fly in-fly out roller and compacter operating position with a mining company in Central Queensland.
Corey is extremely grateful to Return to work assist for their support, assistance and for providing him with the opportunity to secure full time employment in the mining industry.
