Data process
Q-COMP has the mandate under Queensland's workers' compensation legislation to maintain accurate and up-to-date scheme-wide data and information. We use this data to assist to identify and manage workers’ compensation trends and issues impacting the scheme. To achieve this, Q-COMP maintains two databases:
- Q-COMP Scheme Analysis (QSA)
- Q-COMP Core Operational System (QCS)
QSA was implemented in February 2002 and is the core Q-COMP database that contains the scheme-wide data. Insurers submit data to Q-COMP via the Workers' Compensation Insurer' Interface Data Specifications loaded to the QSA system. As well as insurer and WorkCover Queensland data, QSA also maintains:
- Table of Injuries
- Tables of Costs
- Table of Benefits
- Workplace Industry Codes
- Data Specifications validation
- TOOCS (Type of Occurrence Classification System).
QCS (Q-COMP Core Operational System) provides the entire operational information for various units within Q-COMP, maintaining:
- Wages declarations
- Insurer details
- Medical assessment tribunal referrals
- Reviews
- Appeals and Legal Services
- Rehabilitation
- Issues
QSA also links data from QCS to enable scheme-wide reporting. Collating this data enables Q-COMP to provide the following reports:
- Data submission error reports
- Monthly insurer reports
- IPP Reports (Injury Payment Profile)
- Comparative reports
- Statistical and annual reports

Who uses Q-COMP data?
Not only does QSA provide reporting to insurers but it also provides monthly data extracts for the Queensland Employee Injury Database (QEIDB).The Office of Economic and Statistical Research (OESR) maintains the QEIDB on behalf of Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
In addition to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland's use of the data for strategic planning and reporting, data from the QEIDB is provided to Safe Work Australia for the National Data Set (NDS) for Compensation-based Statistics and Comparative Performance Monitoring (CPM).
