Workers' compensation scheme review
Following an announcement by Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie in
June 2012, the Queensland workers' compensation scheme has
undergone a review by a Parliamentary Committee.
The Attorney-General's media release issued on 7 June 2012
explained that for the first time, the five year review would be
conducted by the Finance and Administration Committee of Parliament
and would look at performance of the scheme here in Queensland, how
our scheme compares to other states and they will also look at the
2010 Structural Review of Institutional and Working Arrangements in
Queensland Workers' Compensation Scheme to see whether previous
recommendations and changes are performing as expected.
On 23 May 2013, following the revision of the original February
deadline, the Committee tabled their report and recommendations in
Parliament.
The full report including recommendations can be found on the Parliament's website. All submissions to the
review, including Q-COMP's, can also be found on the Parliament's
website.
Q-COMP is currently reviewing the report in detail to better
understand the next steps required of our organisation if the
recommendations are approved by the Minister and Cabinet.
Q-COMP played an active role in the review by providing clear
and informative submissions to the Committee, and is pleased to
have been involved in such a robust and transparent process.
If there are any matters where you think Q-COMP can assist in
clarifying your understanding of the review or the Queensland
workers' compensation scheme, let us know.
